Reading First:

The Reading First Program is a federal initiative and grant which services all K-3 students to enhance reading skills and abilities.  All of our elementary buildings have received Reading First grants.  We are currently in our third year of the grant.  Each building has shown significant gains in reading since the grant started.

Title I and Other Title Programs:

Title I is a federal grant given to districts with high poverty levels to help supplement teaching staff and strategies.  The Title I grant services all students receiving free or reduced lunches in the K-12 grade span.  The purpose of this grant is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and with that reach proficiency on state academic achievement standards and assessments.

The funding provides children an enriched and accelerated educational program, including the use of school-wide programs or additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time.  It allows for the promotion of school-wide reform and ensures the access of children to effective, scientifically based instructional strategies and challenging academic content.

The grant is also used to support professional development opportunities for all staff.  It is a fact that the quality of instruction is significantly elevated when providing staff with substantial opportunities for professional development.

The grant allows for the coordination of services under all parts of this title with each other, with other educational services, and with other agencies providing services to youth, children, and families.  It also affords parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.
