- Guest speaker Mrs. Anneke Burke visits the Academy to tell her story. Mrs. Burke grew up in the Netherlands, and her family hid 8 Jewish people in their family home during the war. All 8 people survived the holocaust.
- Yuritzia Legorreta, 5th grader, wins the title of "sole survivor" in the Academy’s 1st annual Survivor Challenge. Frank Cox and Ray Vanderveer from the MSU Extension office helped Ms. Smith coordinate this after school event.
- The team of Lesly Melendez, Rameka Pollard, and Sydney Spencer, all 5th graders, take 2nd place at the Physics in the Park competition at Michigan’s Adventure. There were 179 teams competing from around the State.
- Spring trip to Lake Michigan to participate in a beach clean up and water quality testing in conjunction with the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Employee Jamie Cross is shown in one photo working with a group of students.
- Mary Rose [6th grader] and Lani Morris [4th grader] win the District-wide spelling bee.
- 6th graders J’Ana Love-Tunstull and William Shanks show special guest Representative Mary Valentine around the Math and Science Academy and answer her questions.
- The Math and Science Academy students write and publish their own monthly newspaper. Yuritzia Legorreta and Elizabeth Mendez, both 5th graders, act as editor for the school newspaper.
- Mentors from around the community work with and tutor small groups of students in the area of math and science every Monday.
