The Muskegon Heights Public Schools Office of Human Resources serves as the “gateway” to the district. The primary responsibilities of this department include the posting, recruitment, selection, and employment of all personnel. The hiring process is detailed and comprehensive and must be accurate according to local, state, and federal guidelines.

The Human Resources Department is also responsible for coordinating employee insurance benefits, facilitating the substitute registry, complying with labor laws, conducting criminal background checks, negotiating labor contracts, state and federal reporting under “No Child Left Behind (NCLB), pupil accounting, etc. This is a full service department that assists employees with referrals to housing, medical, dental, and vision providers, validating college loan deferments, and other resources. The Human Resources staff prides itself on being people friendly and sensitive to the needs of all employees.


The ultimate goal of the Human Resources Department is to provide highly trained, highly qualified, competent employees who are enthusiastic in carrying out the district’s mission of educating students to become responsible, productive citizens, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex, age, disability, height, weight, or marital status.

The most important resource for effectively conducting a quality learning program is the district’s personnel. Retaining highly qualified personnel ensures that the district’s academic goals are met. We are committed to maintaining adequate working conditions, appropriate staff development activities, and establishing policies which are conducive to high morale and which enables each staff member to make the fullest contribution to district programs and services.
