Listed are the Early Childhood Events that enhance program delivery:


  • Fathers' Involvement Program Activities ("So the children see dads as champions")
  • These are inclusive of but not limited to:
        • Father and Child's Dance - In February, around Valentines Day. " Fathers share their Hearts with there children".
        • Hosting of Mom's Night Out - Fathers pamper moms in an organized school activity. There's entertainment, a motivational speaker, dinner and a special gift to the moms from the fathers. This whole event is planned and delivered by the dads.
        • Fathers' Breakfast -Each year we recognize and the current fathers of children who attend Glendale to plan an itinerary for the year.
        • Field Trips - The Fathers plan field trips assisting in a visible, positive way to the student population.

  • An establishment and maintenance of a safe learning environment as articulated in licensing standards.

  • Home visits and Parent Orientation to transition students and families to the early childhood learning experience.

  • Monthly parent meetings

  • Center based instruction that features:
        • Dramatic Play Center
        • Computer Center
        • Listening Center
        • Mathematic and Manipulative Center
        • Science Center
        • Sand and Water Center
        • Block and Building Center
        • Music and Movement Center
        • Quiet Center
        • Writing Center

  • Open House:
        • To welcome families and showcase classroom operation and procedures.

  • Comprehensive Research-based, Preventative/Proactive, Positive Behavior Support Program:
        • views behavior as an opportunity to teach and support.

  • Monthly Student/Parent/Community Partners Recognition Assemblies

  • Monthly Head Start Policy Committee Meeting to govern programs operations

  • The employment of a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that reflects the Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-Kindergarten

  • Programs to advance literacy instruction:
        • Zoo-Phonics
        • Computer Assisted Breakthrough to Literacy Program
        • The use of Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO) Toolkit

  • Parent and Teacher Conferences
        • To gage and respond to the individual needs of the student.

  • Field Trips to explore the community.

  • Nutritious meals and snacks that are low in sugar and sodium.

  • Professional Development Opportunities that support the professional growth and development of our highly qualified staff.

  • The establishment of the community partnerships that assist by offering their areas of expertise.

  • The institution of the Michigan Department of Human Services Family Resource Center supports families that receive eligible services.

  • "Circle of Parents"
        • Monthly meetings where parents support each other in addressing their parenting challenges.
        • Parents learn and then hopefully gain enough insight and motivation to share with others.

  • The procurement of resource persons/groups
        • To provide enrichment activities for students i.e. representative from the Child Abuse Council, Thomas M. Plunkard Magician, the Muskegon Heights Fire and Police Department, Story tellers etc.

  • Family Literacy Night

  • Hands-on Science Night

  • Assemblies to Celebrate Holidays

  • Family Literacy training session
        • A six week grant funded (Great Parents) where 15 families are selected to be assisted with and given skills in literacy practice with their children.

  • A year end the program completion exercise to celebrate the transfer of students to kindergarten.
