  • Reading First Award granted to Ms. Evie Harrison's 1st grade class for 83% of te students at or above benchmark.
  • Completed grade-level vocabulary lists for the content areas of math, science, and
    social studies.

  • Staff participated in book studies on
    vocabulary development, writing, and using
    DIBELS information.

  • Our PTO president, Mrs. Safornia Johnson-Pierce, received a grant from Lowe’s in the amount of $2,900 to be used to purchase stage curtains and sound equipment to
    improve and enhance the use of our stage.
  • The PTO successfully held our annual
    Father/Daughter Dance, Father/Son
    Bowling Night and Family Skate Night.

  • Mrs. Beth Bessinger entered two students’ art work in the Muskegon Bar Association Law Day Art Contest. The theme was
    Empowering Youth in Democracy. Cody
    Hauke (6th grade) won first place and was
    awarded a $100 savings bond and a plaque.
    Martasha Collins (3rd grade) won second
    place and was awarded a $75 savings bond
    and plaque.


  • Brandon Johnson-Smith (5th grade) was selected to participate in the People to
    People Ambassador Program in
    Washington D.C. in September. Mrs.
    Jennifer Halverson was able to obtain a
    $1,000 grant for him to cover his expenses.
  • Wal-Mart awarded Mrs. Brenda Herman (kindergarten teacher) a $1,000 award. She was selected as an area Teacher of the Year.
